Our Youth Advisory Group: What Makes a Great Mentor?

Last month we had our third and final Youth Advisory Group session of the year!

At Envision we believe that listening to our young people should be at the heart of all we do so the day was a great way to listen and learn. This session in particular was all about hearing first-hand from our young people about what they think makes a great mentor. Until this point, mentors have been giving our young people advice, so this was a chance to turn the tables and allow our young people to give mentors some tips on how they can support them even better!

The day was facilitated by the leader of all our Youth Advisory Group activities, Beth, and our wonderful Envision Programme Coordinators Laila and Rebecca. It was a brilliant day for our youth advisors as they engaged in brainstorming sessions and campaign creation for the Envision social media platforms. Throughout the day the young people were able to utilise their essential skills in fun new ways as they developed their confidence by getting to know new people from across the country! To top this off, when asked in a survey, all of our Youth Advisers felt that their voice had been heard and that the day had helped them develop their skills and their confidence.

To end the day with even more fun, we headed to Roxy Bowling where our young people had the chance to get to know each other more and impress Envision staff with their bowling skills.

This exciting day wouldn’t have been possible without the help of our incredible corporate partner Equinox, who allowed us to use their beautiful office space in Bristol for the day and provided us with a very tasty lunch from Sandwich Sandwich. Thank you, Equinox!
