Isabella Walker
Programme Coordinator (Birmingham)
More about me
Isabella graduated in Modern Languages from the University of Birmingham in 2024, motivated by the power of languages and communication to connect people and communities. While at university, she volunteered with STAR (Student Action for Refugees), teaching English to refugees, an experience that deepened her interest in social action. She went on to complete an MA in European Studies, further exploring the impact of grassroots work at the local level.
A social issue I care about
"The plight of refugees and asylum seekers is both of interest and concern to me, by hearing and reading about Angela Merkel's response to the 2015 refugee crisis and further fuelled by studying refugee-oriented cinema, EU migration policy, and volunteering with refugees and asylum seekers in Birmingham. The experiences I have had so far have emphasised the importance of humanising immigration processes and responses, and ensuring constant empathy, dignity and respect while doing so."
