Service Generation: A Step-Change in Youth Social Action

A report by Demos

Demos were commissioned by the Step Up to Serve campaign to research participation in youth social action and to help identify priorities going forward.

Their research found that 29% of young people currently take part in social action and in response the Step Up To Serve campaign set themselves an ambitious target to increase participation of 10-20 year olds to 50%.

As a co-founder of Generation Change – the independent voice of youth social action – we were invited to contribute to the report specifically around the issue of youth engagement and the personal development gained by participants.

Generation Change were also able to share the data collected as part of the social action mapping that the group have undertaken.
