Bullying solutions at the EHRC

Mon 7 Dec 2009

On Saturday 5th December, Envision teamed up with the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) to facilitate a youth debate on identity-based bullying.

Young people from across the UK came together to discuss bullying on the grounds of race, sexuality and disability. After a lively discussion, participants broke off into smaller groups and came up with some great project ideas ranging from anti-bullying campaigns to support and mentoring for the victims and perpetrators of bullying.

They will be taking these ideas back to their local communities and turning them into action in the coming months. It was great to see students from the Envision Team at Clapton Girls' School at the event who are developing a brilliant project with a local special needs school. We look forward to working with this team this year.

This was the third youth debate that Envision has facilitated with EHRC and it was possibly the best yet. It is extremely important for young people to have the chance to discuss difficult issue like this in an open and critical way. It is equally important that they are given the chance to come up with their own solutions to these problems and to put these ideas into action.

Take a look for yourself!
