Envision London rocks the Camden Centre!
Over 350 London students got the Envision year off to a great start by attending 'The Warm Up' at the Camden Centre for a dose of inspiration, dancing, workshops, good food and general fun!
Jennette Arnold, Chair of the London Assembly, welcomed students to the event and inspired everyone to get involved by sharing her experiences on the importance of individuals taking action in making the world a better place. Then Envision grads took over, introduced the event and got everyone motivated for a great night!
Volunteers from Burberry helped students to customise eco bags for life with their own campaign slogans and personal flair! Stallholders spread the word about issues such as climate change, Fairtrade, recycling, water conservation and the importance of voting.
Students attended two workshops and learnt about issues such as child poverty with Save the Children, how to tackle street crime through positive lyrics with the British DJ & MC Academy and how to shape their urban environment with Planning Aid. They also learnt vital campaign skills such as event planning, recycled fashion and slogan t-shirt design, how to answer difficult questions and also how to best use film to get messages across.
During the food break everyone was treated to a fantastic range of eco cuisine, Fairtrade juice and delicious cakes. Students took part in a competition which challenged them to learn about the projects of different school teams and think about how Envision students should use their new website www.envision.org.uk launching in January! A graffiti wall with the phrase ‘young people these days are…’ gave students the chance to have their say with the overwhelming response being they are inspiring, talented and making a difference!
After the workshops students learnt more about the launch of the Envision website and heard about the story of Cape Farewell. The Warm Up ended on a high with the Envision competition winner walking away with a state of the art Trevor Baylis EcoMedia Player and the Prince’s Trust announced the winner of their draw for a digital camera and we rounded the night off with a live performance from the British DJ & MC Academy.
A few responses from students on what they thought were the best bits of the night::
“Getting to meet the other Envison people and making new friends, it was brilliant”
“We really got to meet other Envision members. It got us active and talking. The film workshop really helped with the project I'm involved in”
