Long Live Southbank

The ‘Long Live Southbank’ campaign was to preserve the Queen Elizabeth Hall undercroft under the Southbank Centre. This, the long-term home of British skateboarding, was scheduled to be demolished and relocated as part of a renovation project.

After campaigning efforts including a petition with over 140,000 signatures and a hugely successful event, The Jam, The Southbank Centre agreed that the renovation work would not include any infilling on the undercroft.

This shows how a small group of people were able to organise themselves and save a local landmark!

The video highlights the history of the undercroft and its journey to becoming such an important urban hub.
