New Minister presents award to Envision students
Envision students were pleased to discover that one of the first official duties of new Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Children and Families, Edward Timpson, was to present them an award at this year’s Conservative Party Conference.
Envision was awarded the Youth on Board award for our Truth about Youth project which has been running in Birmingham in partnership with The Co-operative Foundation for the last 3 years. The Truth about Youth enables young people to tackle negative perceptions about youth in society.
Awarded by a panel of young people from the British Youth Council, projects are selected because the panel believe the projects genuinely exhibit innovative and exciting youth participation.
The award came under the Inspiring Project category, which recognises the efforts made to engage young people and give them a voice.
The presentation took place at the Youth Zone at the Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham which opened with an address by Minister for Civil Society, Nick Hurd before Edward Timpson made the presentations.
The event included a Question Time style panel debate which gave young people, youth providers and other community leaders the opportunity to discuss the issues effecting young at the moment. Topics included how to tackle unemployment and how to engage young people in politics in a more productive and genuine way.
