Inspiring performance

A young person from Envision told an audience of over 800 how his business mentor had shaped his key life decisions.

Speaking at the annual Careers and Enterprise Conference Tukeer Hussain explained how Martin Trentham a volunteer for Interserve had encouraged him to apply for a place at university.  He said:

I am a second generation immigrant and my family expected me to finish school after my GCSEs and get straight to work. Getting involved with Envision and the mentoring has given me the confidence to challenge expectations”.

We are delighted that the Careers and Enterprise Company invited two young people from Envision to close their annual gathering, which brought together hundreds of educators, businesses and Enterprise Co-ordinators from their growing national network.

Our young stars rose to the challenge following on from speakers such as Josh Hardie, CBI Deputy Director-General for Policy and Campaigns and Carl Ward incoming President of the Association of School and College Leaders.

Tukeer really impressed the audience with the confidence he claimed he’d developed at Envision.  He put his prepared script to one side, went off script and spoke spontaneously and confidently from the heart saying:

I just want to take this opportunity to say something to all of you.  What you are doing is so important.   Sometimes you might not realise how much impact you are having on a young person.  It doesn’t matter whether it’s your job or you are a volunteer or how much time you give – don’t under estimate how much just one sentence can influence a young person.  I am sure sometimes it is hard, but please don’t ever give up”.

It was an Inspiring ending to a conference. Big up to Turkeer.
