Envision Grads get up to some pretty impressive things. Read more about some of our Grads in Action below, and if you've got a Grad Story of your own, let us know!
James Mummery
Last year James launched an environmental campaign, ‘Free Newspapers cost the Earth’ to encourage commuters to recycle their newspapers. Since then he has helped create the group ‘Bike, Sweat and Gears’, who use pedal power to generate energy for fun activities like making smoothies and powering sound systems at SOAS. Along with Envision Grads Steven Cheung and Barbara Soetan, James has also been selected to be one of 7 Young UK Ambassadors attending ‘My Summit 2010’, the official international youth summit being held alongside the G8 and G20 Summits taking place in Canada this year. To find out more and to support their activities, check out the My Summit UK blog.
Noorjehan Begum and Nosrul Hoque
Noorjehan and Nosrul’s ‘Buzz of Life’ project is designed to inspire young people who have ambitions but are at risk of being influenced into a life of drugs by their peers. They are making a film based on a real life story about a young man whose ambitions were destroyed by peer pressure, but who is now actively getting involved with his community and succeeding in educating himself and others. They are also running a two month mentoring programme for those who are at risk of falling into negative lifestyles. Join the 'Buzz of Life' Facebook group and support them in their project.
Rowenna Davis
Rowenna has been a GAP member in the 09/10 year, and has been involved in loads of Envision activities since she did Envision in London in 2001. This includes using her journalist skills to deliver Press Officer Training in London and being a panellist at the Truth About Youth debate at Birmingham’s Kick-off. Rowenna has recently gained funding to set up activities for young people to do over the Summer in her estate in Southwark, and she’s not stopping there... She’s also pitching for 10K for a website to get more young people into politics. See Rowenna tell you more about her idea here - Good luck!
Kashif Mehboob and Waris Ahmed
Kashif and Waris were inspired by their Envision project at King Edward’s Camp Hill Boys in Birmingham to continue making a difference on the issue of homelessness this year. They have begun to make a film called 'Begging for a Chance, not your Change' which will document them spending 24 hours with a homeless person. Through this they intend to raise awareness about the difficulties faced by homeless people and to inform people about homelessness prevention.
Wumi Olaosebikan and Adeeb Waren
Wumi and Adeeb, Grads from Raines Foundation School in London, have formed ‘Beddow ‘n’ Battini Studios', a collective which aims to bring others together through a shared love of life, art and people. They organised an art exhibition in Tottenham Court Road last year and this summer plan to hold an event called ‘drawn together’, where artists from all different disciplines get together and raise money for collaborative projects. In addition the guys have also been commissioned to do pieces for the Envision@10 exhibition, celebrating ten years of young people making a difference.
