Gareth has been a communications director for several large international companies and currently works at EDF Energy, the UK’s largest electricity company and part of the world’s largest power company with almost 160,000 employees.
In his previous role Gareth built the business case for EDF becoming a major sponsor of London 2012 and then led the programme to make the most of the sponsorship. This project included providing the fuel for the Olympic cauldron and torch, power for the Olympic park as well as putting on a hospitality programme, advertising and PR campaigns and building a pavilion on the park itself.
His other experience has included a campaign to recruit over 50% of UK public support for the London 2012 bid, crisis communications, brand strategy, employee communications to help increase engagement and communications support for multi-billion pound sale and acquisition of large companies. Among his international experiences he once managed the PR for Hertz car rental throughout Europe, the middle east and Africa.
Outside work, Gareth has a daughter and two sons, loves to ski and play sport and got to know Envision through work on the Legacy Champions programme and by participating as a panel judge in Pitch4Change.
From my very first contact with Envision I found the young people who are coordinators and the people they are working with to be an inspiration. I love the fact that through the work of Envision we can show the positive side of how young people are playing their part in society and encourage even more to join in. I want to help us get the increased profile we need and deserve.
